A battle during the Thirty Years War (Image Quest)
The Thirty years war is a politico-religious war that took place during the Renaissance in the 1600's. During the war there were multiple periods in which fighting took place. The war stretched across Protestant and Catholic Europe, but most of the fighting took place within Germany, in which a treaty was broken by both sides (the Peace of Augsburg), which stated that German princes could choose their region's religion, in hopes of stifling the conflict between the religions. Because the treaty was broken, fighting broke out and the Thirty Years War commenced c. 1618
