As the war came to a close Germany had a long road to recovery as tens of thousands were killed or fled to escape the violence and be able to practice their religions of humanism and individualism. As a result of the war Calvinism was put on an equal level with Lutheranism and Catholicism. Before the war, Lutheranism and Catholicism were the only religions recognized. Even though there were some positive effects to the war, whole cities, farms and villages disappeared as a result of the fighting. As well as many deaths, the arts, science, trade, and industry declined in Germany and it took almost 200 years for it to recover fully
